note from (future) self

June 30, 2011

In January, I made a drastic commitment to knock out my remaining exams. My day job was still exhausting and my perfectionist tendencies did not let up, but it was high time I let the midnight hustler in me get to work. I refused distracting tasks and projects. I put a halt to my usual deference/avoidance routine. I even got an article {a commitment I ceased to renew until exams were done} to the publisher four days early! By the end of May, I was officially an MPhil.

I also made a promise to set limits this year. One dessert per week. One frivolous clothing/accessory purchase per month {while working on remixing my existing wardrobe instead of adding to it}. One excused meal out per week. Thirty-minutes per day of non-work related web surfing/emailing/blogging. To my delight, very few exceptions have needed to be made.

Then there were new habits. Stay consistent with exercise and sleep. Wii Fit until it was warm, then power walking at the park. In bed by 11, no excuses. I used the weekends to test my creativity--like recipes from our vege cookbooks. Pleasantly surprised how much this reduced our urges to eat out.

Now here's to a great summer!

Rules:
Stop deferring and start dealing.
Admire more; purchase less.
Be consistent.

Great goals! And I like the idea of writing a little note for 6 months later.

I'm joining you on the Wii Fit. I can't imagine what mean things mine will say . . . oops! I always forget how much fun it is until I actually do it.

Hey! Lovin' the idea!
Of course if I did that I would have to read it daily as a reminder or come summer I would be giving myself much grief for failing!!!!

What a great idea! It took my slow brain a wee minute to work out why the date was June but I figured it out eventually, d'oh! You've also inspired me to dust off my Wii fit too. I've not used it in over a year since we got the dogs but it may be time to do the 30 day challenge!
